The season
Historically these are two main runs of salmon, the spring run from the start of the season until the middle of May and the currently more prolific autumn commencing late August or early September and continuing until the end of the season. The bulk of the catch is taken in the autumn months but for many years prior to 1968 the larger proportion of Tweed fish was taken in the first five months of the season. The Tweed has the added benefit of October and November fishing when many other rivers are closed for the season. Fresh fish continue to run into late autumn.
