Why Set up a Tenants & Residents Association?

  1. Easier access to information from your Landlord
  2. Easier access to information from other Council departments and other public bodies
  3. Representation of an individuals' case by the Association
  4. Representation of the wishes of the area covered
  5. Access to independent advice and support
  6. Information sharing with other Tenants & Residents Associations Tenants Panel (reps. from all Tenants Associations) meets monthly in Inveraray
  7. Representation locally (ie Area Development Group, Area Committee)
  8. Fundraising and grant access abilities as a formal group
  9. A recognised group of tenants that your Landlord (or others) can consult with
  10. A recognised group to lobby for improvements or changes in local services (not just Council services but things like Police patrols, Bus routes etc)
  11. To work in partnership with other recognised groups ie Elderly Forums, Neighbourhood Watch, Community Council
  12. Affiliation to national organisations ie TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) or TIS (Tenants Information Service)

What Sort of Things Can We Participate In?

  1. Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction with services
  2. Environmental issues
  3. Estate Management (refuse disposal, landscaping, dogs, community safety, car parking etc)
  4. Customer Relations (enquiries and complaints)
  5. Council Policies (allocations, repairs & maintenance, rents, debt recovery)
  6. Standards of Council Services (communication & information, performance monitoring)
  7. Tenancy Conditions & breaches in those conditions
  8. New Services and proposals for future services delivery ie stock transfer

What Resources and Support Can We Be Offered?

  1. Help with getting started, i.e. constitution, registration, setting up a committee
  2. Funding of all your running costs, i.e. stationary, phone calls, hire of premises for meetings etc
  3. Training for committee office bearers
  4. Premises and facilities ie possibility of allocating a community flat
  5. Affiliation with national groups TPAS & TIS affiliation fees will be paid for
  6. Development Support
  7. Help with information gathering and communication with the wider community
